Capacity Building in Higher Education: Western Balkans

The ERASMUS-EDU-2026-CBHE-REGION-1 call is part of the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) action and is specifically targeted at Region 1, covering the Western Balkans. The call supports transnational cooperation projects between higher education institutions from EU Member States and eligible third countries in the region, as well as relevant non-academic partners, with the aim of strengthening higher education systems at institutional and system level.

Funded projects are expected to contribute to the modernisation, quality improvement, and internationalisation of higher education by addressing regionally defined priorities. These may include curriculum development, innovative teaching and learning approaches, digitalisation, governance and management reforms, quality assurance, stronger links between higher education and the labour market, and improved employability of graduates.

The action places strong emphasis on institutional capacity building, inclusiveness, and sustainability, supporting reforms that have a lasting impact beyond individual institutions. Through collaborative partnerships and knowledge exchange, the call contributes to broader EU objectives such as social inclusion, skills development, labour market relevance, and evidence-based higher education reform in the Western Balkans.
