Commission Sets out Plans to Scale up the New European Bauhaus for Clean Transition and Innovation

The European Commission has presented its plans for the future of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), setting out how the initiative will be scaled up as part of the European Affordable Housing Plan. Through the Communication “New European Bauhaus: From vision to implementation” and a proposed Council Recommendation, the Commission aims to strengthen the NEB’s role as a driver of the clean transition and innovation in Europe and beyond.

Building on its first five years, the NEB will take on a stronger role in supporting businesses, innovators and communities in addressing key challenges such as housing affordability, climate change and rapid technological change. The initiative focuses on three core objectives: enhancing sustainability, circularity and innovation in the built environment; empowering citizens through participatory and inclusive processes; and harnessing education, arts and culture to boost creativity and local transformation.

To turn these objectives into action, the NEB will roll out concrete measures, including tools for sustainable construction, a digital catalogue of affordable housing solutions, low-carbon demonstrator projects and the NEB Academy for skills and innovation. Funding and governance will also be reinforced through new advisory and investment mechanisms, while the NEB will continue to expand internationally, notably supporting Ukraine’s green recovery. The Commission now invites the Council and stakeholders to engage and help embed the NEB across national, regional and local initiatives.
