Call for Applications for Scientific Research Infrastructure Projects (PIKSH) 2026

In January 2026, the National Agency for Scientific Research and Innovation of Albania (AKKSHI) launched a call for applications for Scientific Research Infrastructure Projects (PIKSH) for the year 2026. The call is based on Albania’s legal framework for higher education, research, and innovation, and aims to strengthen research infrastructure within public higher education institutions.

The call is open to public, accredited higher education institutions (individually or in consortium) that carry out scientific research. Eligible projects must focus on the establishment, upgrade, or renovation of research infrastructure, including laboratories, major research equipment, scientific collections, data repositories, IT systems, communication networks, or other unique research and innovation infrastructures. Proposals must clearly justify the need for investment, demonstrate alignment with institutional teaching and research strategies, and ensure that the infrastructure will be open and accessible to external users.

Projects must comply with open science principles and align with European research frameworks (such as ESFRI and ERA objectives), as well as with Albanian national strategic priorities. Applicants must also demonstrate the expected impact on research capacity, beneficiaries (students, researchers, and the wider research community), and provide a detailed maintenance and sustainability plan, to be covered by the institution’s own resources.

Applications must be submitted in two printed copies and one digital copy (USB/CD) by 27 February 2026, via official mail to AKKSHI in Tirana. Incomplete or non-compliant proposals will be disqualified at the administrative stage. The evaluation process will conclude in March 2026, with contracts expected to be signed by the end of the month.
