Programme for Improving the Management of Animal By-Products

Description of the programme/policy

This programme regulates the management of animal by-products in accordance with the Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development of the Republic of Serbia for the period 2020-2024. The programme was implemented as part of the Twinning project “Building Capacity for Improving Food Production Facilities and Managing Animal By-Products” and was carried out by a consortium consisting of the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, and the Latvian Food and Veterinary Service, in partnership with the former Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection – Veterinary Directorate.

Main objective of the programme/policy

Main objectives: To improve the safe and environmentally friendly collection, transport, and disposal of animal by-products in Serbia. Second main objective can be strengthening control and monitoring of animal by-products to prevent the spread of animal diseases and ensure food safety, and promote the sustainable and economically viable use of animal by-products

Specific objective of the programme/policy

The specific objectives of the programme include improving the legislative and regulatory framework for animal by-products management, promoting safe and sustainable practices for collecting, handling, and processing animal by-products, and supporting the development of the animal by-products processing industry in Serbia.
