The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) continues to support the New European Bauhaus (NEB) – a key EU initiative that promotes solutions which are sustainable, inclusive, and visually appealing. The EIT helps projects that combine art, science, design, and technology to solve real problems in society.
To guide its work from 2025 to 2027, the EIT recently released a new roadmap, supported by Horizon Europe and other EU programmes. This roadmap introduces new funding opportunities and tools to help bring NEB ideas to life.
Since its launch in 2021, the EIT Community NEB – which brings together groups like EIT Urban Mobility, EIT Climate-KIC, EIT Food, and EIT Manufacturing – has created a clear path for citizens, startups, and larger projects to get involved and grow their NEB-inspired ideas.
In 2024, six public calls attracted 379 applications from across 22 countries. These calls supported new business ideas, helped test early concepts, and brought communities together to redesign public spaces in line with NEB values.
In 2025, the focus will be on getting even more people involved, improving the programmes, and spreading the word more effectively. Initiatives like Ignite NEB and Grow NEB support fresh ideas, while Catalyse NEB helps startups grow faster. In total, 20 selected startups will get special financial and mentoring support.
The EIT Community is also launching the NEB Academy, which will offer training to professionals in construction and design, helping them build more sustainable and people-friendly cities. At the same time, the NEB Lighthouses – 26 major projects – will continue to show how NEB ideas can work in the real world.
