The IHI Joint Undertaking aims to accelerate cross-sectoral research and innovation, bringing together public (e.g. universities, hospitals, public bodies, NGOs) and private (industry, SMEs, associations) partners to address pressing health challenges and unmet public health needs across pharmaceutical, biotech, medtech and digital health sectors. Projects are structured as Research and Innovation Actions, often requiring consortia of entities spanning sectors and geographies to maximize public-private collaboration.
Generally, the eligibility rules are connected to Horizon Europe and legal entities from associated countries (such as the Western Balkans) may participate in IHI projects. Entities established in the Western Balkans can participate as full beneficiaries and are eligible for IHI funding on equal footing with EU-based organisations, however, not many organisations have so far been successful in the programme (see Maps and Statistics).
