Horizon Europe Call: The Impact of Pollution on the Development and Progression of Brain diseases and Disorders

Type of Action: RIA (Research and Innovation Action) – Lump Sum, Two-stage evaluation

Objectives:

  • Investigate lifelong exposure to pollutants and links to neurodegenerative, neurodevelopmental, and brain disorders.
  • Use exposome / neuro-exposome methodologies to understand health impacts.
  • Generate FAIR data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) on pollutant exposure & brain health.
  • Integrate social sciences/behaviour aspects and provide policy-relevant insights.
  • Ensure strong clustering/networking among funded projects.

Deadline

  • Stage 1 (Short proposal): 16 September 2025 – 17:00 (Brussels time)
  • Stage 2 (Full proposal): 16 April 2026 – 17:00 (Brussels time)

Eligibility:

  • Open to legal entities from EU Member States and associated countries.
  • Consortia of at least 3 independent entities from 3 different eligible countries required.
  • International cooperation encouraged, especially with low- and middle-income countries.

  • Improved understanding of how pollution contributes to brain disorders.
  • Policy-relevant evidence supporting EU strategies on health and environment.
  • Better data sharing through FAIR principles.
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration between environmental, medical, and social sciences.
