The capital city Podgorica is included in the EIT Urban Mobility programme RAPTOR and calls for innovative solutions in measuring traffic and emissions of harmful gases.
The capital city Podgorica was chosen as one of 14 European cities whose challenges in the field of urban mobility were accepted for the RAPTOR programme, which created a great opportunity for the development of innovations in the public sector. This step opens new doors for the introduction of advanced solutions that deal with specific challenges of traffic and environmental protection.
In the current phase of the programme, until 12 February 2025, companies and startups are invited to propose innovative solutions that address the challenges.
RAPTOR is an innovation programme of EIT Urban Mobility that enables the rapid development and application of innovations, facilitates the availability of innovations to cities and can be a catalyst for the development and application of innovations that solve challenges in the public sector. The programme paves the way for innovation, which is not common in standard public procurement procedures. At the same time, it de-risks investing in innovation for cities.
Challenge Defined Within the RAPTOR Programme
How can Podgorica efficiently and effectively collect the data on traffic-related CO2 emissions in order to better plan sustainable urban mobility measures and reach climate neutrality goals?
The current results of air quality monitoring, which is carried out annually and covers three city locations, indicate high air pollution caused by traffic. In order to obtain a comprehensive overview of CO2 emissions originating from traffic, it is necessary to cover a larger area of the city, with real-time data from various relevant locations. In this way, it would be possible to draw evidence-based conclusions and define and implement concrete activities in the direction of CO2 reduction.
Additionally, Podgorica currently does not have real-time traffic flow data, that is, the number of cars on city streets, which hampers the opportunities to analyse the actual situation and plan possible solutions.
Desired Situation
- At least 5 real-time or near-real-time traffic and CO2 monitoring devices installed in key urban areas
- Dashboard designed for Podgorica municipality to be able to visualise the data and facilitate conclusions
- Roadmap for next steps on what data collection methods can be scaled up and what key interventions could be implemented based on the data collected
Invitation to SMEs and Startups
The capital city of Podgorica and EIT Urban Mobility invite interested companies and startups to apply to the open call by 12 February 2025, and get the opportunity to implement their solution in Podgorica.
Applications are open for companies from Montenegro, as well as for all small and medium-sized companies and startups from the European Union or countries associated with the Horizon Europe programme (i.e. including all Western Balkans).
