COST Annual Report 2025: Record Proposals and Stronger Participation

The COST Annual Report 2025 shows a record year for the network. The 2025 Open Call received the highest number of proposals ever, marking a 29% increase compared with 2024. More than 50,000 main and secondary proposers took part, all 42 COST Member countries were represented as main proposers, and 70 new COST Actions were launched in autumn 2025.

The report also highlights COST’s continued focus on widening participation and interdisciplinarity. In 2025, 37% of main proposers came from Inclusiveness Target Countries, one in three main proposers was a young researcher or innovator, 48% were women, and 55% of proposals combined two or more scientific fields.
For the Western Balkans, the report provides useful country-level participation data and confirms COST as a relevant framework for researchers and innovators across the region. It is a useful reference for institutions and individuals planning future engagement in COST Actions.
