Skills for Smart Specialisation in Albania: Sustainable and diversified tourism

Albania embarked on its smart specialisation journey in 2016 and has since been working towards the development of a national strategy in this area. Coordination of the process has been led by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. Between late 2020 and the end of 2022, a comprehensive mapping study was conducted, followed by the Entrepreneurial Discovery Process towards the close of 2022. These efforts culminated in the identification of three national priority domains: renewable energy and natural resources, sustainable and diversified tourism, and a healthy, sustainable food chain.

In support of these developments, the European Training Foundation (ETF) carried out a study focusing on technology and skills needs across the three strategic areas. The study aimed to deliver both a long-term vision for technology and skills, as well as a practical roadmap for skills development, including specific actions. Its overarching goal was to explore and define the skills-related dimensions and requirements stemming from Albania’s smart specialisation priorities in each of the selected domains.

The reports are available at this page and aim to provide insights and recommendations for developing the necessary skills in the context of the preparation, adoption and implementation of the national strategy for smart specialisation and, consequently, the enhancement of the:

  • Sustainable and diversified tourism
  • Renewable energy and natural resources
  • Food Chain
