NanoBalkan Initiative

The NanoBalkan Initiative is a regional platform dedicated to advancing nanoscience and nanotechnology across the Western Balkans. Established in 2019, it serves as a virtual center uniting over 30 research groups from countries including Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia, and international partners like Italy and Spain. Inspired by the Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2) model in Barcelona, the initiative aims to strengthen regional research and innovation capacities in fields such as health, agriculture, environment, advanced materials, and digital health.

A key component of the initiative is the annual NanoBalkan International Conference, which has been held in various locations, including Tirana, Albania. These conferences bring together scientists, industry representatives, and policymakers to foster collaboration, showcase cutting-edge research, and discuss policies related to nanotechnology. The events feature workshops, seminars, and sessions on topics like 2D materials, nanomedicine, and biosensors.

Through its collaborative approach, the NanoBalkan Initiative plays a pivotal role in promoting scientific excellence, facilitating technology transfer, and enhancing the competitiveness of the Western Balkans in the field of nanotechnology.
