Western Balkans Industry 4.0 Readiness Dashboard by UNIDO

The Western Balkans Industry 4.0 Readiness Dashboard is a prototype, interactive policy tool developed under the UNIDO project “Fostering Industry 4.0 for Green Transition and Circular Economy in the Western Balkans” to provide an empirical, ecosystem-level assessment of Industry 4.0 readiness in six Western Balkan economies. It consolidates data from more than 200 respondents (SMEs, Business Support Organisations, government bodies) and integrates survey evidence with regional digital indicators (such as WB DESI 2024) and a macro dataset on Industry 4.0 capabilities to test theoretically grounded hypotheses about digital and green transformation pathways.

The dashboard also introduces an Ecosystem Effectiveness Index that captures systemic coordination across policy, support organisations and firms, in which Western Balkans score approximately half the level of typical EU benchmarks in comparable readiness studies. The dashboard presents statistics and diagnostics, distils several discoveries and translates them into strategic priorities for Western Balkan decision-makers.
