The MOODLE project was implemented by KREN (Kosovar Research and Education Network) with support from the Croatian network CARNET and funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, implemented within the Digital Transformation Center at ITP.
The MOODLE online learning platform is a new functional service of KREN tailored for all educational institutions and levels in the country. Utilizing KREN’s pre-existing infrastructure, modern internet connectivity in all higher education institutions and hundreds of schools across Kosovo, and the connection of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to Eduroam; the hosting service at the KREN Data Center; the utilization of Microsoft 365 licenses, and other accompanying services, KREN is increasingly approaching the integration and use of MOODLE in Kosovo’s education system.
KREN offers the MOODLE platform as an online Learning Management System (LMS) from an open-source adapted to the needs of education in Kosovo. MOODLE is used for blended learning, distance education, and other online or classroom learning projects, and can also be used for various tasks in other sectors. KREN MOODLE LMS is designed to be user-friendly for both students and instructors/lecturers.
Advantages of using MOODLE:
- Repository of course materials, available anytime, anywhere;
- Course organisation, so students know exactly the type of activity and time allocation for studying each course module;
- Communication services to allow collaboration between students and facilitate interaction between students and teachers;
- Assessment services, so that assessment can be done more frequently, students can receive instant feedback, and, moreover, the teacher’s correction process can be automated.
Upon completion of the physical internet infrastructure connection and internet access for all HEIs in the country, representatives from KODE/ME, along with representatives from KREN, are working hard to further advance the project of establishing and connecting all schools in Kosovo to the internet. This infrastructure deployment will serve as the main basis for MOODLE integration.
