NTNU Brussels Office is regularly organising “One Hour With Europe” sessions which are recorded and made available on YouTube. The edition on 16 May 2024 focused on “The implementation of the New European Research” area and featured Anna Panagopoulou, Director of Directorate ERA & Innovation in DG RTD of the European Commission.
Background: In 2019, together with the Member States, the European Commission initiated a process to renew the European Research Area (ERA) aimed at addressing new challenges such as the twin transition. Two years later, in 2021, the new ERA was launched with the adoption of the Pact for Research and Innovation in Europe, along with the Council conclusions on the future governance of ERA, which also ratified the first ERA Policy Agenda for 2022-2025. The Pact for Research and Innovation defines 14 priority areas for joint action, ranging topics from open science to the coordination of research and innovation investments. It serves as a long-term framework for ERA Policy Agendas. For the period 2022-2024, these agendas identified 20 actions based on the priority areas identified in the Pact and 18 being put forward for further focus.
The Actions as well as ERA Governance around the ERA Forum involves also the Associated Countries (i.e. also the Western Balkans).
