A major new initiative is set to boost digitalisation and innovation among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the Western Balkans. The “Go Digital in the Western Balkans” programme, developed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and supported by the European Union (EU), was officially launched to enhance SME competitiveness and accelerate the region’s digital and green transitions.
The programme will provide up to €350 million in loans via partner banks and leasing companies across the region, alongside €27.6 million in EU-funded grant incentives and technical support. SMEs will benefit from grants covering 10% of their loan value, supporting investments in automation, green technologies, and advanced digital tools.
Building on a successful pilot in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which supported over 200 companies, the regional expansion aims to reach around 750 SMEs. The goal is to help businesses modernise operations, boost productivity, and access new markets, bridging the digital gap with their EU counterparts.
The credit line will be available through more than ten financial institutions across the Western Balkans.
