[Event Review] EU Sport Forum 2024

The EU Sport Forum serves as the primary platform for structured dialogue between the European Commission and key sport stakeholders. This initiative brings together representatives from public policy, EU institutions, private enterprises, educational bodies, and other experts to discuss challenges, opportunities, and the future of sport within the EU.

the objectives of the EU Sport Forum are to:

  • Review progress in implementing the EU’s sport agenda.
  • Gather stakeholders’ perspectives on current activities and explore future initiatives.

The forum features high-level group discussions and panels addressing crucial themes such as: Anti-doping. Corruption. Discrimination and Mobility. It provides a vital opportunity for experts to engage with the pressing issues shaping the sporting world. Participants gain insights into how sport is evolving in response to economic, societal, and innovative challenges across the EU and beyond.

The EU Sport Forum is an annual event organised by the European Commission, Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture in support of the continuous dialogue with the European and international sport community. It is a central meeting point between sport organisations, representatives of the EU Institutions and Member States exchanging views on the current and future sport policies.

In the run up to Paris 2024, this year’s Forum was organised in Liege, on 16 – 17 April, and looked into the connection between EU and Olympic values and focus on some of the most topical issues in the sport sector, such as integrity, sustainability and gender equality.

The Forum was opened by former Commissioner Mariya Gabriel and discussed the future of EU sport policy from fostering inclusivity to promoting grassroots initiatives, while also discussing the intersection of health and sports. The Forum also addressed the new perspectives for European football, the challenges to sport in the digital age and lifelong sport, representing an opportunity to discuss the future of sport policy.

The award ceremony for the #BeInclusive EU Sport Awards also took place during the event.
