The Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT) in Partnership with the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU)

The Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT), in partnership with the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), Vienna, has launched the “AUT-BOKU Strategy 2030”, a landmark initiative to position AUT as a leading academic institution in Life Sciences in Albania and the Western Balkans.

This ambitious project is jointly funded by the Austrian and Albanian governments, with official support from:

  • Austria: Federal Ministries for Education, Science and Research, and Agriculture, Forestry, Regions, and Water Management.
  • Albania: Ministries of Education and Sports, and Agriculture and Rural Development.

The official signing of the agreement took place on 15 April 2024 in Vienna, Austria, ensuring long-term support to transform AUT’s future.

The project seeks to reform AUT into a research-based university, modelled after leading European institutions, focusing on three key pillars:

  • Study Programmes – Modernising curricula and aligning with EU educational standards.
  • Scientific Research – Building AUT’s international research capacity.
  • Knowledge Transfer – Strengthening cooperation with businesses, policymakers, and society.

Why AUT?

As Albania’s main Life Science university, AUT is home to 350 highly qualified lecturers and over 6,000 students. The campus includes an Experimental Didactic Farm (EDF), currently under transformation, serving as a hub for education, research, and innovation.

Through “AUT-BOKU Strategy 2030,” AUT is set to:

  • Become one of the top agricultural and life sciences universities in the Balkans.
  • Deliver interdisciplinary, high-quality education and research.
  • Take a leading role in knowledge transfer and technology to benefit society, businesses, and policymakers in Albania.
