New technologies like mixed and augmented reality are reshaping healthcare. In Serbia, doctors at CHC “Dr Dragiša Mišović” introduced the Hololens during the Covid-19 pandemic, enabling remote collaboration between “red zone” and “clean zone” teams. The device projects holograms of scans and lab results, helping doctors make faster, life-saving decisions.
Today, Hololens is used for medical training, simulations, and teleconsultations, allowing specialists across borders to support critical cases. With UNDP and government support, the technology has been extended to hospitals across Serbia and to the University Clinical Centre of the Republic of Srpska.
Doctors highlight its potential not only for improving diagnostics and education but also for empowering patients to better understand treatments. While challenges remain, such as infrastructure, acceptance, and regulation, the innovation has already gained international recognition as one of the top public sector breakthroughs.
