North Macedonia’s Fund for Innovation and Technology Development (FITD) to Cease Operations, Paving the Way for New Agency INOVA

The Fund for Innovation and Technology Development (FITD), a key driver of North Macedonia’s innovation and startup ecosystem and partner in the POLICY ANSWERS project, ceases to exist on 22 August 2025. This legal closure marks a strategic move to establish a new institution, INOVA (Agency for Innovation Activity, Scientific and Technological Development and Entrepreneurship), which will assume all of FITD’s rights, assets, and obligations. The full administrative process for the closure and transition is expected to be finalised by the end of October.

Since its establishment, FITD has been instrumental in supporting the country’s research and innovation (R&I) landscape, providing critical financial and technical support to startups and SMEs. This legacy will be continued and built upon by the new agency, ensuring a seamless transition and continuity of support.

Daniela Dimovska has been appointed as the new director of INOVA, effective from 5 August 2025. Her leadership will be pivotal in guiding the new agency’s mission to foster technological development and entrepreneurship, reinforcing North Macedonia’s commitment to strengthening the R&I ecosystem across the Western Balkans.
