As part of the POLICY ANSWERS project, a staff mobility initiative took place at the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research in Europe (FAIR/GSI) research facility in Darmstadt, Germany. Nina Begović and Maida Hadžiabdić from the Research Support Office at the University of Sarajevo, spent five days exploring opportunities for international cooperation and research engagement at large-scale infrastructures like GSI.

The visit was carried out under a short-term fellowship part of the POLICY ANSWERS programme, which seeks to enhance research and innovation capacities across the Western Balkans. This initiative forms part of a broader mission to position the region as a dynamic contributor to the European Research Area by facilitating meaningful exchanges, training opportunities, and institutional collaboration.
During their time on campus, Nina and Maida had the opportunity to engage with experts and learn about ongoing international mobility programmes, including the GET_INvolved initiative, which offers students and researchers hands-on experience at world-class research facilities.
The exchange enabled fruitful discussions on fostering bilateral cooperation and highlighted the importance of building support structures within universities to facilitate participation in large-scale scientific collaborations.
