In early 2024, the National Agency for Scientific Research and Innovation (NASRI) launched several funding calls aimed at enhancing scientific research and innovation in Albania. These initiatives have provided crucial financial support to various projects across multiple sectors, fostering collaboration between public institutions, higher education institutions (HEIs), and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Scientific Research Infrastructure Projects
On 15 February 2024, NASRI opened the call for Scientific Research Infrastructure Projects, which closed on 20 March. This initiative attracted significant interest, resulting in 39 applications across six priority fields of scientific research. Following a thorough evaluation process, 22 project proposals were selected for funding, amounting to a total of 299,474,016 ALL. It is noteworthy that this call was exclusively available to public institutions, emphasising NASRI’s commitment to strengthening the public research infrastructure in Albania.
National Research and Development Programmes
Simultaneously, from 18 January to 11 March 2024, NASRI initiated a call under the National Research and Development Programmes. This call saw a remarkable response, with 168 project proposals submitted and evaluated by internal experts. Ultimately, 73 projects received funding, with a total allocation of 159,192,947 ALL. This initiative was open to both public and private higher education institutions, reflecting NASRI’s goal of promoting collaboration across the educational landscape.
Technology and Innovation Collaboration
Additionally, from 18 January to 11 March 2024, the Technology and Innovation call was also launched. After the evaluation phase, 18 projects were successfully funded, with a total financial commitment of 43,714,434 ALL. This particular call focused on fostering collaboration between academia and small and medium-sized enterprises, thereby supporting innovation and practical applications of research in the industry.
