Sarajevo Theatre Showcase (STS) has announced an open call for its 2026 Showcase programme, which takes place from 11 to 13 September 2026, in Sarajevo.
Sarajevo Theatre Showcase is a curated regional platform that presents contemporary theatre productions from Southeast Europe to international audiences—including festival directors, artistic directors, producers, curators, and cultural decision-makers. The Showcase is part of the international project New Theatre Market (NTM), which aims to strengthen professional connections between regional artistic production and international opportunities for touring, co-productions, and collaboration.
The organiser of Sarajevo Theatre Showcase is Sarajevo War Theatre – SARTR (Bosnia and Herzegovina), in partnership with Heartefact Foundation (Serbia), Ulysses Theatre (Croatia), Para Film and Theatre (Norway), Binario Vivo (Italy) and Realstage (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
Applications are open to professional theatre productions from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia.
Eligible applicants include public theatres, independent companies, production houses, collectives, and co-productions.
Productions must have premiered between January 2025 and 5 April 2026.
The call is open until 20 April 2026 (23:59), and the selection results will be announced no later than 5 June 2026.
All conditions, criteria, and the online application form are available via the provided LINK.
Artistic Vision and International Visibility
Sarajevo Theatre Showcase does not function as a competitive selection of the “best of the season,” but instead focuses on performances that combine a strong artistic identity and production quality with a clear potential to communicate beyond the local context and enter international circuits of touring and collaboration. Special attention will be given to works that address contemporary social, feminist, gender and political issues, introduce new generational perspectives, and demonstrate formal or aesthetic innovation.
Selected productions will be presented in Sarajevo to international festival selectors, artistic directors, and producers actively seeking new work for their programmes. Through moderated discussions and professional networking opportunities, STS becomes a space for direct dialogue between the regional scene and international decision-makers, continuing to build bridges between contemporary artistic production and global professional networks.
