The Center for Sustainable Energy Transition Opened in the University of Sarajevo

The University of Sarajevo’s Faculty of Economics officially opened the Centre for Sustainable Energy Transition on 23 September 2024 as part of Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week (SECW). Held at the Hills Hotel in Ilidža, the event gathered experts and institutional representatives from sustainable development and energy efficiency sectors.

Keynote speakers included Nikos Tsakalidis, Team Leader for the EU4Energy project, Professor Dr Meliha Bašić, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, and Professor Dr Haris Lulić, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. They highlighted the Centre’s role in strengthening regional energy transition efforts. Tsakalidis discussed the EU4Energy project’s main goals, such as aligning energy and climate legislation with EU standards, building institutional capacities, and advancing energy awareness.

Zoran Bogunović, a public engagement expert from EU4Energy, emphasized the Centre’s interdisciplinary approach, bringing together technical, economic, social, and political expertise essential for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s energy transition. The Centre aims to support research, real-sector projects, and public engagement in sustainable energy.
