From 17 to 22 March 2025, media professionals from public service broadcasters in the Western Balkans participated in a study visit to France and Germany. Organised as part of the EU-funded Innovation. Media. Minds. programme, managed by the Goethe-Institut and implemented by DW Akademie, the visit aimed to enhance journalism practices, media innovation, and European cooperation.
The delegation visited key European institutions and media houses, starting in Strasbourg with tours of the European Parliament and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). Discussions with ECHR representatives focused on journalist protection and freedom of expression. The group also visited ARTE, a Franco-German broadcaster, to learn about cross-border collaboration and investigative reporting.

In Baden-Baden, sessions at Südwestrundfunk (SWR) covered AI in journalism, innovative storytelling, and content development. In Cologne, Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) hosted discussions on constructive journalism, ethical AI use, and engaging digital audiences.
The study visit reinforced the role of independent journalism and cross-border collaboration in addressing challenges like disinformation and audience engagement. It underscored the importance of adapting public service media to the digital age while upholding ethical values.
This initiative reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen media innovation and foster cooperation across Europe.
