In the framework of the CORYA project, funded by the European Union through the REINFORCING initiative, Beyond Barriers Association (BBA) supported by project partner Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI), have been actively fostering a culture of Open and Responsible Research and Innovation (ORRI) and Citizen Science in Albania. Over the past few months, BBA conducted a series of four dynamic workshops across leading educational institutions in Tirana. These workshops aimed to empower young researchers and academics with knowledge and tools to embrace transparent, inclusive, and impactful research methodologies.
Workshops Overview
The workshops took place at four prestigious institutions: Beder University Tirana, the European University of Tirana, the Economy Faculty of the University of Tirana, and the Social Sciences Faculty of the University of Tirana. Together, these events engaged nearly 90 participants, including master’s students, young researchers, and academics.
Key topics explored included the principles and benefits of ORRI, insights from the Vienna study visit, and the role of Citizen Science in addressing societal challenges. Additionally, the workshops served as a platform to introduce CORYA’s forthcoming e-learning module on ORRI, a comprehensive tool designed to equip young Albanian researchers with essential skills for inclusive and responsible research.
Highlights and Outcomes
- Knowledge Transfer from Vienna: Participants were introduced to best practices in ORRI and Citizen Science, inspired by the experiences shared during our Study Visit in Vienna (December 3&4, 2024). This exchange of ideas highlighted the transformative potential of citizen-led research in fields such as youth work, economics, and social sciences.
- Preview of E-Learning Module: The workshops unveiled the upcoming e-learning module, which aims to make ORRI methodologies accessible to a wider audience of young researchers in Albania. This innovative resource promises to bridge knowledge gaps and inspire a new generation of transparent and socially engaged scientists.
- Collaborative Research Opportunities: By fostering dialogue and collaboration between students and academics, the workshops emphasized how ORRI can create meaningful societal impacts through participatory and inclusive research practices.
