Description of the programme / policy
One of the EESC Transport, Energy, Infrastructure and the Information Society (TEN) Section’s main priorities in the digital field is the implementation of the Digital Single Market strategy, and with it the creation of a functioning Digital Single Market.
In its opinions, the EESC expresses civil society’s concerns and aspirations regarding the impact on the labour market. Cybersecurity is also of primary concern: every day, cybersecurity incidents cause major economic damage to European businesses and the economy at large, and undermine the trust of citizens and economic actors in the digital society. Other main topics that the EESC addresses, both in opinions as well as through direct contacts with stakeholders, are: education in the digital field, the attractiveness of the digital field for women, the consequences of digitalisation for working conditions, accessibility and protection of users, especially children and people with disabilities. The TEN Section continuously monitors the digital gap and promotes equal access for all: a considerable number of European households still lack internet connections.
