Focus Group Explores Integration of Artificial Intelligence Higher Education System

A focus group on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Kosovo’s higher education system was held at the Faculty of Economics as part of the University Support Grants Programme, financed by the U.S. Embassy in Pristina and administered by KUSA. The discussion formed part of the ongoing project “Integration of AI in Teaching and Learning in Kosovo’s Higher Education System,” led by Gentrit Berisha, Mjellma Carabregu Vokshi, and Lura Rexhepi Mahmutaj.

The event brought together professors, university staff, and representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation to discuss how AI is already being used in classrooms to enhance teaching, improve efficiency, and better engage students. A central point highlighted during the discussion was the importance of using AI as a supportive tool that strengthens, rather than replaces, critical thinking. The session concluded with a shared commitment to develop clear, practical guidelines for the responsible use of AI in Kosovo’s universities.

This initiative contributes to strengthening academic institutions and promoting thoughtful, ethical use of technology in education. As a next step, a U.S. expert will support the drafting of the guidelines, drawing on experience and ethical standards from the U.S. system. The project also opens opportunities for further collaboration between universities in Kosovo and the United States, encouraging shared learning and deeper academic connections.
