Albania to Invest €10 Million in AI Startup Thinking Machines Lab

Albania’s parliamentary finance committee has approved a proposal from the Ministry of Finance to allocate 1 billion Albanian lek (approximately €10 million) in funding for the California-based artificial-intelligence startup Thinking Machines Lab.

The funding is intended to support the startup founded by Albanian-born technologist Mira Murati (formerly CTO of OpenAI). The government states the investment comes from proceeds of confiscated assets and aims to position Albania as a hub for AI research and development and attract international investment.

Thinking Machines Lab reportedly plans a seed‐funding round of up to US $2 billion, with a target valuation of at least US $10 billion. The €10 million investment remains subject to full parliamentary approval.
