During the first day of the workshop, participants had the opportunity to learn about the objectives and structure of the Horizon Europe program and the opportunities for applying for open calls for funding innovative research segments by the academic sector, companies, non-governmental and governmental organizations. Ways were shown how to generate ideas for these project proposals with detailed explanations of the templates for writing project proposals through three sections: excellence, impact, and implementation. In addition, workshop participants were also shown how evaluators assess the quality and relevance of the submitted project.
The second day of the workshop was dedicated to implementation, i.e. the management of approved Horizon Europe projects. Thus, the practical steps from the approval of the evaluator’s report to the submission of the final project report were explained. Significant time was dedicated to explaining the contract signing process and the main challenges during project management, such as: creating a visual identity, organizing an initial meeting, monitoring the implementation of planned activities and corrective measures. In addition, the activities of reporting on project progress, maintaining project documentation, submitting technical and financial reports and financial audits of the project were described. The workshop ended with a discussion with the lecturer and a discussion on the sustainability of the project after its formal completion.
This workshop, held within the framework of the international project “Policy Answers – Implementation and Support in Science and Innovation Policy Making in the Western Balkans – POLICY ANSWERS” (Horizon Europe), was attended by over 25 participants from 12 members of the University of Banja Luka, as well as from the Rectorate.
