Presentation of European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Actions Building Scientific Networks Between the Region and the EU

21 October 2025

The COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) programme will be highlighted at the Ministerial Meeting of the Western Balkans Steering Platform on Research and Innovation through a dedicated session demonstrating its role as a connector between researchers, communities, and Europe-wide networks.

Six researchers, one from each of the six participating economies, will share their individual experiences with COST. Their stories illustrate the diverse benefits of COST participation, from introducing new subjects at universities and securing additional EU funding, to returning to their hometowns after international careers, and developing leadership skills through COST networking opportunities.

The session will be presented in a storytelling format, moderated by the COST President, featuring brief three-minute interventions from each COST Action representative, followed by a short Q&A session.

Expected Impact:

  • Increase the visibility of COST in the Western Balkans research and innovation ecosystem.
  • Highlight networking and funding opportunities accessible through COST Actions.
  • Showcase the region’s sustained engagement in COST since the programme’s foundation.

This session underlines how COST continues to foster collaboration, advance careers, and support research excellence across Europe and the Western Balkans.
