As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen mobility-driven research and innovation in the Western Balkans, SCiDEV is hosting a roundtable on 5 June 2025 titled “Advancing Mobility-Driven Research and Innovation in the Western Balkans.” This event builds on the achievements of the Mobility Thematic Working Group, led by SCiDEV during the Civil Society and Think Tank Forum 2023 of the Berlin Process.
The roundtable will bring together researchers, policymakers, and key stakeholders from the EU and the Western Balkans to exchange insights, share success stories, and advance concrete policy recommendations. These efforts aim to reinforce the region’s integration into the European Research Area (ERA) and support the development of a dynamic research and innovation ecosystem across the WB6.
This event is organised in the framework of the SCiDEV-led project “Enhancing Mobility-Driven Research and Innovation in the Western Balkans for Sustained Economic Growth and Convergence with the European Union,” supported by the Open Society Foundations – Western Balkans (OSF-WB). The project contributes to regional and European research agendas by advocating for increased investments in mobility and innovation, while promoting synergies with ongoing processes such as the Joint Science Conference of the Berlin Process, the Chairs’ Conclusions of the Leaders’ Summit in Tirana (October 2023), and the EU’s New Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore findings from SCiDEV’s recent research, review newly published policy briefs, and discuss concrete recommendations aimed at enhancing regional collaboration and sustainable economic development through science, technology, and innovation.
The roundtable is organised as part of the #IGNITA initiative, a collaboration of regional civil society organisations supported by the Open Society Foundations | Western Balkans, aimed at fostering regional cooperation and supporting EU integration processes.
