European Maritime Day – Maritime Forum

21 - 22 May 2026

The European Maritime Day – Maritime Forum will take place on 21–22 May 2026 in Limassol, Cyprus, organised by the European Commission in cooperation with the host country and local partners. European Maritime Day (EMD) is the European Union’s flagship annual event dedicated to maritime affairs and the sustainable blue economy. It brings together policymakers, public authorities, researchers, industry representatives, NGOs and coastal stakeholders to discuss priorities, challenges and opportunities related to Europe’s seas, oceans and coastal regions.

The Maritime Forum features high-level plenary sessions, thematic workshops and stakeholder dialogues covering a wide range of topics, including blue economy innovation, maritime spatial planning, marine research and observation, decarbonisation of maritime transport, biodiversity protection, fisheries and aquaculture and the role of coastal cities and regions. The event serves as a platform for presenting EU policy developments, sharing research and innovation results, and strengthening cooperation across sectors and governance levels in line with the European Green Deal and the EU’s Integrated Maritime Policy.

Participation offers Western Balkan policymakers, research organisations and innovation actors opportunities to connect with EU maritime networks, explore alignment with EU blue economy and marine research priorities, and enhance their visibility in European maritime policy discussions. This is particularly pertinent in the context of EU enlargement, regional sea-basin cooperation and increasing integration of Western Balkan actors into EU research, innovation and sustainability frameworks.
