Participating in the European Research Area, Lessons and Pathways for the Western Balkans

19 March 2026

The POLICY ANSWERS project will conclude with a public event in Tirana titled “Towards the European Research Area: Lessons and Pathways for the Western Balkans.” The event will bring together policy makers, experts, researchers and key stakeholders from across the Western Balkans and the European Union to reflect on the project’s achievements and future perspectives for regional cooperation.

The public event will showcase the project’s main outcomes and their contribution to the Western Balkans Agenda, with particular emphasis on policy dialogue, capacity building, foresight activities and pilot initiatives. Participants will gain insight into how POLICY ANSWERS has supported the alignment of regional priorities and strengthened collaboration between institutions, research communities and policy actors.

A dedicated panel discussion will explore the policy impact of the project and examine pathways for deeper engagement between the Western Balkans and the European Research Area. The discussion will also address opportunities for sustained cooperation and the role of evidence-based policy making in supporting research and innovation systems in the region.

The event will conclude with a study visit to an innovation or research institution in Tirana, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with practitioners and observe concrete examples of Albania’s developing innovation ecosystem. Draft agenda will be available soon.
