Preserving Cultural Heritage in Times of Climate Change: 1st STECCI Conference

The EU Horizon project STECCI (Stone monument ensembles and the climate change impact – HORIZON-CL2-2022-HERITAGE-01 | ID: 101094822), launched in 2023, is dedicated to developing innovative and sustainable strategies to protect Europe’s cultural heritage, with a special focus on the stećci—medieval tombstones in the Balkans—endangered by climate change and related challenges.

The STECCI project organises its first international conference showcasing preliminary results from the interdisciplinary team and invites contributions from researchers across fields such as conservation, environmental sciences, life sciences, tourism, social sciences, natural sciences, and the humanities.

The event is organised 25–27 September 2025 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.

Papers are invited related to the following topics:

  • Climate change impacts and vulnerability assessment of tangible heritage
  • Advanced methodologies and environmentally sustainable solutions in heritage conservation
  • Social and economic impact of climate change on cultural heritage
  • Digitalisation of cultural heritage
