How can science shape innovation policies and drive regional transformation? What are the first steps toward fostering innovation at a territorial level? These questions take center stage as more than 240 territories—including EU Member States, regions, and cities—prepare to collaborate closely with the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in a groundbreaking initiative.
Over the next two years, these territories will work within the framework of the European Union Preparatory Action Innovation for Place-Based Transformation, an initiative backed by the European Parliament. This effort integrates dissemination, outreach, capacity building, and co-creation activities, enhancing territorial capacities and mobilising resources to tackle pressing challenges such as decarbonisation and digitalisation.
The official launch of this initiative takes place on 29 April, marking the beginning of a collaborative innovation journey. The event will introduce key stakeholders addressing these challenges, highlight the political support behind the initiative, and showcase the scientific expertise and data resources that the JRC is ready to contribute.
