Open Access is a scholarly communication model whereby research outputs are openly available without charging fees to either authors or readers. Today there exist between 17000 and 29000 journals relying on diamond open access model.
Open and immediate access to research results is one of the principle recommendations of the UNEASCO Recommendation on Open Science as well as one of the requirements in projects funded by European Commission.
