The University of Banja Luka hosted its annual Science Conference on 12 November 2024, celebrating scientific achievements and recognising outstanding contributions from professors and teaching assistants. The event showcased research published in international reference journals and highlighted significant projects led by the University’s academic staff.
Vice-Rector for Scientific Research and Development, Prof. Aleksandar Ostojić, PhD, described the conference as one of the University’s most important annual events. He explained that the conference, now in its sixth year, originated from a competition aimed at encouraging excellence among the University’s professors and teaching assistants. The goal, he noted, is to provide younger colleagues with an opportunity to learn from experienced faculty members about preparing scientific papers and successfully applying for research projects.
During the event, held at the Student Cultural Centre, a total of BAM 94,600 was awarded across several categories. In recognition of published research in international journals, 75 professors and teaching assistants received a combined total of BAM 82,000. Additionally, three coordinators or contact persons for Erasmus+ Capacity Building projects were awarded a total of BAM 2,100. A special award of BAM 1,000 was given to Prof. Branka Radošević Mitrović, MA, from the Academy of Arts, for her international artistic contributions.
Among the honoured recipients, Prof. Slavica Tutnjević, PhD, from the Faculty of Philosophy, was recognised for her leadership of a Horizon Europe-funded international project. She highlighted the significance of such awards in acknowledging the dedication of academic staff and fostering further contributions to scientific development. Assistant Professor Dragana Šnjegota, PhD, from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, was awarded for her research paper Phylogeographic Reconstruction of the Wolf Position. Expressing her gratitude, she emphasised the importance of recognising the hard work of faculty members, noting that the award serves as motivation for future research.
Assistant Minister for Scientific and Technological Development, Zoran Bjelajac, also addressed the conference, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to supporting research and enhancing the scientific infrastructure of the Republic of Srpska through grants and other incentives.
The event was part of the celebrations marking the 49th anniversary of the University of Banja Luka. It was attended by Rector Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, as well as Asst.
