Virtual Media Workshop to Strengthen Reporting on Environmental Threats and Solutions in the Western Balkans

28 - 29 January 2026

Earth Journalism Networl (EJN) is organising a two-day virtual workshop on 28–29 January 2026 for journalists from the Western Balkans interested in reporting on environmental threats and solutions. The sessions, held in English, will introduce key biodiversity concepts, explore links with climate and health, and cover conservation policies and tools. Participants will learn from media trainers, researchers, policymakers, and civil society groups.

The workshop aims to strengthen environmental storytelling in the region and improve journalists’ skills in finding data, identifying sources, and engaging audiences. A certificate will be provided to those who attend both days.

Following the training, EJN will offer 10–12 story grants for in-depth reporting on biodiversity challenges and solutions, with priority given to workshop participants. Grants will include funding as well as one-on-one editorial mentorship.

Journalists from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Kosovo* are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted in English and are open to freelancers and staff journalists across all media platforms, with encouragement for women, rural, and early-career reporters.

The workshop will be held via Zoom, with approximately 30 participants selected. Applications are submitted online until 26 November, and shortlisted candidates will be notified in December 2025.
