CMAPSEEC 2026 – the 13th Conference on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Southeast European Countries – with the theme “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in a Changing World: Biodiversity, Innovation and Sustainable Value Chains” takes place from 28 to 30 October 2026 in Shkodër, Albania, gathering researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders working along the entire value chain of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) in Southeast Europe. Building on more than two decades of CMAPSEEC tradition under the umbrella of the Association for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Southeast European Countries (AMAPSEEC), the event provides a dedicated platform for scientific exchange on MAP biodiversity, sustainable use, phytochemistry and applications in health, food, and cosmetics. With its focus on the Southeast European region, the conference aims to connect academic excellence with local knowledge and emerging innovation ecosystems, while highlighting Albania and the Western Balkans as a dynamic hub for MAP research and production.
Over three days, the conference is expected to feature plenary lectures, invited talks, oral and poster sessions, as well as opportunities for networking among scientists, farmers, SMEs, industry representatives and policymakers. Previous CMAPSEEC editions have attracted participants from around 20 countries, demonstrating the conference’s role as a bridge between Southeast Europe and the wider European and international MAP community. The 2026 edition continues this tradition by fostering discussion on how to translate MAP research “from biodiversity to bioactivity”, addressing topics such as conservation of endemic species, quality standards, value-added processing, and the integration of MAPs into sustainable rural development strategies.
The conference offers a venue where regional researchers and innovators can present results, explore partnerships for Horizon Europe and other international initiatives, and engage with networks such as AgroWeb and the broader MAP community. By convening stakeholders in Shkodër, CMAPSEEC 2026 contributes to strengthening cross-border collaboration, knowledge transfer, and innovation in a sector that is strategically important for green growth, bioeconomy, and rural livelihoods across the Western Balkans.
